Musashi
An Asil Studios original anime & manga series.
The story
Fukuoka is a city split by a river. On the east side, in the tight-knit neighborhood of Sumiyoshi, families run little shops downstairs and live upstairs, everybody knows everybody, and the public bathhouse is the place to be.
Koji Nakamura is huge for his age, fast on his feet, and a loner. Taku Saito is small, brilliant, and the target of every bully in junior high. One day Koji steps in, and the two become friends.
Then Omura Sensei, the popular gym teacher who once wrestled professionally, makes them an offer: join the sumo club. Koji could be the team’s secret weapon. Taku will have to prove himself the hard way. What starts at a weedy practice ring behind the gym could lead all the way to the pro sumo world.
Musashi is about friendship, rivalry, finding where you belong, and the people who believe in you before you believe in yourself.
Meet the cast
Koji Nakamura
The biggest kid in his class, with a bottomless appetite and surprisingly quick feet. Raised by his hardworking mom and the kind older couple who run the eatery downstairs. Big body, bigger heart.
Taku Saito
Small, clever, and a fast learner (he masters tying a mawashi after seeing it once). Half Japanese, half Vietnamese, and done being pushed around. Koji’s best friend, and maybe his toughest rival.
Omura Sensei
The school’s most popular teacher and sumo club advisor. He was a pro wrestler once, but it didn’t end the way he wanted. Now he’s searching for a “diamond in the rough.”
Ai (Koji’s mom)
Hardworking, sharp, and completely devoted to her son. She’ll be the loudest voice in the stands.
